Prim and proper

At the beginning of the year I talked about how fashion was going to be very feminine and lady like this spring, with girls dressing more like girls saying goodbye to the boyish trends. This really came across on the catwalk last week. I guess I like Prim Rose's collection so much because it's young but sophisticated and has a little bit of a 1950's housewife feel, with hem lines skimming the knee. Here are a couple more of my runway shots from the show

I have also found a great dress and coat (both new in at Zara) which could be worn with clashing pastel shoes inspired by this collection and the photography that I took of my favourite pieces.

Pretty in pink

My inspiration for tonight's post came from this shot I took at the Prim Rose catwalk show at fashion weekend. Prim Rose's collection is very girly with dreamy spring pastels. I really like this casual weekend look (maybe without the ice cream headband) I'm not sure I could get away with that one in Sheffield.

I have picked out a high street alternative - may have to buy this one myself it's very 'me'

Seaside and slot machines

I have returned from London fashion weekend and have just about recovered. I had an amazing time at Somerset House on Friday. The sun was shining and there was a great atmosphere. As well as working hard to get some shots for the blog I managed to do a bit of shopping and also found some time to party in the evening and enjoyed one too many cocktails at Callooh Calley with a few friends.

I'm going to try and post all my photographs this week. I managed to get a seat in the press area at the front of the catwalk, which was awesome and gave me a great opportunity to practice my skills.

The first designer to showcase her collection was Holly Fulton. I love the fact that Holly's S/S collection is based on the girl who has spent all her money on clothes so has to holiday a little closer to home. Instead of the bright lights of Vagas she takes a trip to the neon lights of Margate.  Her influences come from the slot machines and seashells. Holly is known for using art deco prints and geometry which comes across in her new season designs.

Hope you enjoy my pictures from the show

Her collection is available from www.matchesfashion.com or if that's a little pricey check out this Holly Fulton T- Shirt from Topshop

Huxton girls

I wasn't going to post tonight as I have had a crazy day at work and I'm off to London fashion weekend tomorrow so I have been busy planning my outfit and making sure that my camera is fully charged so I don't miss any of the runway action.
I have been reviewing designers from the cultural industries fashion show this week. Huxton girls Joanna and Rebecca started their fashion label in 2011. Their 2012 spring/summer collection is very elegant and mixes bright colours and bold prints and is bang on trend for this season.

Rianna Phillips

Rianna Phillips has recently graduated from Manchester School of Arts and showcased her clothes at The Spring Fashion Show. This young designer uses hand dying techniques, digital prints and metal wear in the making of her clothing line. She has also launched an awesome handbag collection and has just set up an online shop. I love the over sized clutch bags ( I WANT I WANT I WANT ). Below are some pictures I took at the catwalk show and a few of my personal favourite clutch bags.

Crop it

I posted about the 1920's last month and the fact that fur is going to be staying around for 2012, so when I spotted this girl in Manchester I could see that this trend had already taken off. Myself and journalist friend Chloe were a little spoilt for choice who to photograph for our street style feature that we were working on for Exposed magazine. Fashion in Manchester is currently giving the capital a run for its money. I have found this lovely alternative to the jacket I photographed on ASOS. I particular liked the collarless neckline, cropped sleeves and the detailed broach is a nice little touch.

Message in a bottle

Take a look at this very cool handmade jewellery by Mothersaid. There are some great pieces to choose from. You can email your own personal message and have it set in a bottle which is then placed on a chain. All items are made using old history books. I also like the antique timepieces which have an Alice in Wonderland feel. I discovered this stall at the cultural industries fashion show but this company often travel from city to city promoting their collection.

L'Atelier

At the beginning of the week I said I would be writing about some of the up and coming designers I saw last week at the Spring 2012 fashion show in Manchester as well as posting some of my photographs of the catwalk show.

The first designer that I have decided to post is a young lady called Karoline Flis who launched her own label in 2011.

Karoline who is creative director at L'Atelier offers feminine and stylish clothing.  One thing that I like about this new designer is the price of her collection. All the clothes looked really high quality, so I was expecting them to be expensive but was pleasantly surprised when I looked at the prices.

Here are a couple of my favourite pieces.....

This classic cut blazer will look perfect with skinny jeans ( I have an obsession with blazers I must own about 15 of them) and this one is a great price only £35.

This navy sheer tie front top £18 could be teamed with shorts and tights for a cool spring look

I Love this pretty Butterfly scarf and it's a complete bargain for just £7

Plaits and that

Good evening. I've had a bit of a wild few days so haven't had chance to post much this week but I have loads of exciting pictures for this coming week from the cultural industries spring 2012 fashion show that I attended in Manchester on Wednesday.

Whilst I have been out about with the camera I have spotted a few girls sporting the plait. I really like this new season hair trend as it can be made very simple and wearable like the girl above that I shot at the Tate Modern gallery in London.

If you are feeling a bit more adventurous you can try this edgy style that I captured back stage at the Spring 2012 fashion show.

Have a look at this guide to a simple plait featured in Elle and best of all this look is totally free.

The Southern man

We have looked at some Northern street style so let's take a look at some street fashion in the capital. This shot was captured outside St Paul's cathedral. I liked the way these 2 gentleman (look back at the northern man from yesterday's post) have matched their shoes and bags. The Northern man's look was sleek and sophisicated. The Southern man has dressed his outfit down with trainers and a chilled out bag. Both guys stood out from the crowd with their unique looks.

The Northern man

I captured this shot on a weekend away in picturesque Knutsford. I would definitely recommend a trip to this Cheshire town to take a stroll down the cobbled streets where you will find cute boutiques and quirky cafes. Allan has gone for a stylish high end look combining this limited edition Prada travel bag with brown Hudson shoes which look great on the streets of this upmarket town

When it's cold outside

The cold weather has hit and it's hard to stay warm and still look stylish. I was out and about in London this weekend and I spotted these girls whilst wondering through a very crowded Borough Market yesterday. Both girls have very different looks and managed to stay toasty and warm with these fabulous hats. I like the contrast of these 2 looks, dressed down knitted versus glamorous fur.

Stay warm in in the snow this week with these alternatives
